Rumor has it that the once highly anticipated game I AM ALIVE from Ubisoft, has been relegated form a full retail release to an digital download release via Xbox live arcade and PSN.
Just in case you don't know. The story is based around a massive earthquake which kills millions and renders all foods and water supplies lost. As a result, the remaining survivors have only 1 option left to them, stay alive at any cost. Not a lot more is known about the adventure but I've got to say that it does look great and the idea has me spellbound.
Now if theirs one area of gaming I refuse to touch it's the MMO side of things. There are couple of reasons for this 1, monthly subscriptions are not a laughing matter, 2, My Laptop barely runs solitaire, and 3, Ollie plays them.
If there was one MMO that would even tempt me it would be Star Wars the Old Republic. I'm a massive Star Wars fan and the thought of being a Jedi warrior and questing all day long brings a smile to my face. It's being made by Bioware, the people who have given us the Mass Effect series, which are great games in themselves, and Dann's favorite Dragon-age. So it's in very capable hands.
Check out the 2 videos below. One is of the opening cinematic and the other is some game play.......WOW !!!!
I've not played a full Final Fantasy game since 9 as I was just getting a bit crazy with all the RPG's I was playing at the time and after awhile I just forgot about them and basically lost interest in them.
That may be about to change after seeing the below trailer for Final Fantasy XIII Versus on the PS3. From what I've been about to decode, It's a party based combat system similar to that of Kingdom Hearts. You'll be able to switch between 3 characters within your party but there will be more to choose from. Being a Final Fantasy game it will of course have each character use an ability that is uniqe to them, like one guy will be a master gunfighter, another will be a great swordsman. and so on.
It all looks stunning and very fast paced but unfortunately it won't be out in 2011. Squre Enix love to wet our appites and then snatch the prize away from our hands.
Anyway here's the trailer which shows a load of in game battles and some of the story. It's in Japanese but you'll still be able to fall in love with the beautiful effects we have grown up with when playing any Final Fantasy game.
Well after all the hype, we finally have our first look at the PSP2.
So yeah we were right, it is touch screen and it does have dual analog sticks, and yes it has a 5" screen, BUT we now know that Sony have gone the route of memory cards as there format of choice, an SD type of card. 3G is a in and with this you can stay connected to you online games without any hassle.
Games wise, Sony brought out the big guns. Metal Gear Solid 4 (the PS3 version) was shown running with no problems. New Call of Duty advantages are also planned, plus most of the first party games will be an appearance. Look out for new Kill Zone, Little big planet, and Wipeout.
So It's coming and it looks like a contender for the DS crown, but will it have the staying power or will it go the way of the PSP GO ?
Check out the video of photos for the Sony presentation.
I thought I'd get this in quick before Dann got wind of it.
L.A. Noire by Rockstar games is coming and it's coming quick. If you liked Red Dead Redemption and the GTA games, then quite possibly, you'll like this.
Now some of you may not be old enough to remember this one but back in the day there was a game so crud, so naughty that it laughed in the face of the FPS genera. Now 12 years have past and finally we are also in touching dissents of a new DUKE NUKEM game, Duke Nukem Forever.
As I said, 12 years have passed and a lot of stuff has happened in that time such as all of the Lord of the Ring films, The Matrix Trilogy, Jason Bourne, 9/11, The next gen consoles, and much much more. Still better late then never right ??
Anyway the game is on the way now thanks to the development teams at 2K who brought the rights after 3D Realms had to let go of the Duke nukem franchise.
Heres the new trailer for you. It's real tongue un cheek so don't get to offended.
I don't know about you but I like GUNS !!!! no I mean guns in video games. In fact my favorite types of games are first and third person shooters, the one I'm looking the most forward to is BRINK (apart from Bullet Storm, Gears3, KillZone3, etc, etc). Bethesda (the people behind Fallout 3) and Splash Damage (Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars) are behind this one so we should be in for a treat
Brink seems to look a bit like Borderlands (which Dann and I loved) but set on some sort on massive boat. The plot seems to be that you have a gun and you must kill everything that moves.........SOUNDS GREAT!!!!
Check out this video showing what weapons are on offer.
This ones going to released on all formats so no one is going to miss out. Get ready to shoot bad and good guys and maybe some pets or other wide life as well.
So with news coming from Nintendo that there new hand held device (3DS) will be around the £230 mark and that we should be seeing it on the 25th oh march. It only seems fair to mention a few of the games we'll be losing our sight to.
First up is Super Street Fighter 4 3D. Yup that's right SSF4-3D......on the 3DS....coming soon....! I'm a big Street Fighter fan and I'm dying to see how it turns out in it's first 3D outing. Here's a short video highlighting a couple of new features announced in this weeks Nintendo show and tell.
Second we have Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. Now unlike Street Fighter, I was only ever interested in the first 2 R.E adventures. I know that some say part 4 was the best ever and maybe one of the best games ever made, but screw them, I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that you could not move and shoot at the same time (long live L4D). That said, it seems that running and gunning is now a main stay in this and future versions of Resident Evil games. Check out some footage and some background on what we can expect...
I've not blogged for a couple of days now due to a new project John and I are working on. Can't say to much about it now but it's really moving along and taking shape. keep checking the site and forum for more updates.
Anyway back to the wonderful world of gaming. I thought I'd bring a little information on the current platform EXCLUSIVE games coming out over 2011. Check the list below and see what Sony and Microsoft will be sending your way.....
Playstation 3
Hyperdimension Neptunia The ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection inFAMOUS 2 Journey Killzone 3 - February 22 The Last Guardian LittleBigPlanet 2 MLB 11 The Show MotorStorm Apocalypse No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise Pixeljunk Shooter 2 PlayStation Move Heroes Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One Resistance 3 SOCOM 4 Sorcery Twisted Metal Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception Yakuza 4
Xbox360
Gears of War 3 XCOM Kingdoms Halo4 Forza Motorsports 4 StarWars Kinect Rise of Nightmares Codename D Project Draco Steal Battalion: Heavy Armor
Xbox had a great 2010 when it came to exclusive titles and it was always going to be hard to carry that momentum over to 2011. The PS3 has a great year ahead with the likes of Kill Zone 3, Uncharted 3, and the Last guardian coming.
I'm sure I've missed a few. Let me know if I have.
Get your 3D glasses ready people because your favorite PS3 First Person Shooter is on is way back very soon. Yep you guessed it kill Zone 3 has been given an official release date of February 22nd 2011.
There are many new features in the new adventure but the 2 key points are 1, it's going to be 100% 3D, and 2, both story and multiplayer modes are compatible with the PS3 move system. Check out the video below to see a demonstration on how the game works with the move.
Now if reports are to be believed, the story continues right where Kill Zone 2 finished with you and ISA team down but not out. Get ready for more bad guys and bigger weapons once this hits the shelves.
Theres some new news on the hack made on the PS3 this week.
It turns out that if you do hack your console you may be able to unlock all the trophies of any game you put in, simply by pressing one button. Crazy I know but there are a lot of people out there who only play games for these trophies so they may be the first in line to get there machines knocked up with some sort of mod chip.
I don't like this type of thing, don't get my wrong I love getting my achievements and trophies but i love playing games much much more. To break the system just to get all the trophies is mad.
Watch your back you hackers and moders out there. You know you'll get caught and banned at some point.
News on the grape vine is that we are very close to getting our little paws on the new PSP2 from Sony. Now I'm not talking about the mis firing PSP GO, I'm talking about a brand new upgraded system with a massive new hard drive and shiney new bits and bobs.
It will boast a touch screen approx 1 inch bigger then the current system and dual analog sticks but what's the surpising aspect of all this is that rumor has it they are close to makeing as powerful as a PS3............WOW !!!!!
If this is true we may have a game changer on the way. Think about it, playing a hand held device just as powerful as your home console ? And what about the ripple effect. The PS4 would have to blow the PSP2 out the water for people to go back to it.
Again this is all rumor but it's something to think about....
Just thought I'd post a quick blog about the current state of my gaming life. It's been really crazy right now with the podcast taking off and all the games I been trying to play all at the same time. I'm at the point now where I'm only playing the disc in the xbox as I'm way too lazy and way too tired to get up and change it.
Anyway I'm still kicking ass on 007 Bloodstone. The more I play the more I see the similarities between this and last years Splinter Cell Conviction, in fact I would say that Ubisoft may have a case in suing Activision over copyright. For example, both games have the take down system where if you get close enough to the enemy you preform a nice little action sequence. If preformed correctly you obtain a move called the focus kill (this move just guaranties a headshot kill), again available in first, the Splinter Cell and now 007.
Check out the videos and tell me Ubisoft dont have a case.
I'm still loving 007 but how much love do I need to thank Splinter Cell for this ??
Now I don't know about you but I'm a big EPIC GAMES fan. I loved the Gears of War games as well as the great arcade game that is Shadow Complex. Even the games powered by there unreal 3 engine seem to be in a different class.
So when I was told that Epic were going to be releasing at 2 tripe A games this year, I started to go weak at the knees. First up is the last in the Gears series, GEARS OF WAR3. The first game set the bar which all other third person shooters have been trying in vine to reach. It's still one of the best selling games ever on the Xbox 360 and is high on the online leader-boards. GEARS 2 was a tremendous success, Outselling the first game and carrying on the great work done over at EPIC. The story maybe lack something and it probably got a bit lovey dovey in the middle but if you pass that, your still looking at a great game.
Now GEARS 3 is almost here. So far this looks to be the best of the bunch. More action, more characters, more enemies, which all means way more fun.
Check out the video and wet yourself !!!
Second on the list is Bulletstorm. This one looks crazy. Available on Xbox360, PS3, and the PC, It's like a cross between Gears and Borderlands. It's all based on kill system. The more stylish your kill the better your score will be, and with crazy guns on offer plus an electric whip type weapon, killing in style won't be a problem.
Check out the following video to see what EPIC CRAZINESS is on it's way to you.
